The Red Burdigala Banka is a critically endangered betta endemic to Bangka Island, Indonesia. This striking species displays brilliant red coloration with iridescent blue and green accents across its body and fins. Native to blackwater peat swamps with acidic conditions (pH 4.5–6.5), it thrives in soft water environments rich with leaf litter and submerged wood. A bubble-nesting species, it constructs nests beneath shelter rather than at the surface. In captivity, maintain a minimum 19-liter tank with temperatures between 24–29°C, soft acidic water, and a covered setup to accommodate their impressive jumping ability. Feed live or frozen foods like blackworms and bloodworms. Males are moderately aggressive; house them in pairs or small groups with generous hiding spaces. This rare species demands experienced keepers committed to replicating its specialized natural habitat.
