Betta sp. Api Api 'Jade'is a striking, undescribed variant within theBetta coccinacomplex, likely a hybrid or regional form combining traits ofBetta api apiandBetta persephone/miniopina. It isnot a naturally occurring speciesbut a selectively bred or discovered variant.
Males display abright red bodylikeB. api apiwithdistinctive iridescent green or jade-blue markingson the flanks and fins, extending from the anal fin to the caudal fin. They have tall, narrow ventral fins with a blue/white rim and a pointed, round caudal fin. Females resembleB. persephoneorB. miniopina.
This variant requiresblackwater conditions: soft, acidic water (pH 6.5–7.5), warm temperatures (24–28°C), low flow, and a well-planted tank with hiding spots. It is carnivorous, needing high-quality pellets and live/frozen foods.
Due to its territorial nature, it's best kept alone or with peaceful, non-competitive tank mates.
